History

Previous names: The Albert

Opened in 1869 as the Albert Inn, a beer shop in one of William Armett's houses on William Street. By 1879 its landlord was the Midland Railway Company.

Hydes renamed it in the early 2000s after Alderman Fletcher Moss, who gave his home and grounds to the city in 1919. They're now Fletcher Moss Gardens.

Its landlord remembers one or two Dozens a month coming through in the 1980s. These days it's more like 30 to 40.
